Southern California Coalition is the world’s largest and most inclusive organization aimed at creating and promoting sensible cannabis policies. SCC represents every subdivision of Southern California’s budding cannabis industry.

SCC is the driving force behind LA’s Proposition M, a measure that gives Los Angeles complete oversight of the local cannabis market. Prop M passed in March with resounding support, and on Thursday, they issued the following statement regarding the city’s draft regulations:

LOS ANGELES – Statement by Virgil Grant, president and co-founder of Southern California Coalition:

We thank the Los Angeles City Council, Council President Wesson, Jr., and Councilmembers Bob Blumenfield, Paul Koretz, and Nury Martinez for their leadership in moving Proposition M forward, and are eager to work with them on this important next step.

The release of the city’s draft regulations is a positive step towards fully licensing and regulating the cannabis industry in Los Angeles, so that our businesses have a shot at getting local authority, remain eligible to apply for state licensing, and are not left out of the state process, which is expected to start in January 2018.

We will be reviewing the city’s draft regulations in greater detail and responding in the near future with our policy recommendations, along with any other concerns in an effort to strengthen the draft regulations in a constructive way. Our goal has always been and will be to ensure that an inclusive regulatory model that protects all aspects of the industry under the state guidelines, is implemented in the city. We will continue to work with the Los Angeles City Council to ensure Proposition M is implemented in full and regulated in a responsible and inclusive way.
